Summer

Ah summer! That wonderful time of the year when all the bougainvilleas are in full bloom, their leaves unfolding in different shades of purple, pink, white and orange. Our school looks especially beautiful during this season for nearly every inch of the walls forming boundaries for the school, overflow with these lovely colourful creepers with their small white flowers huddled inside their top colourful leaves. The lush green leaves beneath the colourful ones bunched up at the top, are of different shades green.

Another thing that is wonderful about summer is its light breezes. Our school occasionally has 10-20 minuet long power cuts during summer which is really unfortunate specially after gym or games class. Our class has wide windows with light coloured pleasing-to-the-eye curtains hanging loosely from the curtain rod above it; during these power cuts it gets really sticky and hot, so even the lightest of winds that come come dancing through these wide opened windows feels as cool and perhaps even more enjoyable than if the fan were on.

Summer is the hottest season, and so, during this period of the year swimming, naturally, becomes a popular sport. The cold, clear, water feels extremely nice and cooling when you go for a dip on a hot summers day.

Usually the heat of summer chases my family and I off to the Himalayas. Instead of suffering in the heat of Hyderabad, we go for walks in rich pine and deodar forests, collect fresh wild strawberries and eat them and then look hungrily for more,  collect wild flowers to press in a book, wrap ourselves in several layers of warm clothing and sit by a roaring fire eating nice warm aloo paranthas under a star flecked sky, always under the gentle gaze of the majestic Himalayas blanketed in soft , white snow.

I love summer rains. I have never played in the first rain of summer for my mother

never lets me; she says that given the polution in the air, it is preferable that we don’t play in the rain. Even thought she does not let me go out to play in the first rain of summer, I still throughly enjoy it by sitting outside in the balcony, listening to music while reading a book, or inviting my friends over and sitting in the balcony with them and painting, for all of us are quite good artists, or sometimes just sitting outside and listening to the patter of rain falling on the ground down bellowed enjoying the occasional lightning and thunder. At the slightest sign of the second down pour of summer, I would have put on my black rain coat and rubber slippers and would be rushing down the four flights of stairs to play in the rain and enjoy its cool droplets.

Summer truly is a wonderful season, full of different things to enjoy and experience, I am really looking forward to this years summer so that I can once again see the blooming bougainvillea creepers, the majestic Himalayas and the tall pines and deodars, enjoy swimming, and splashing around in the second rain of the season.
